East Coast meets Midwest

The luxury and sophistication of the Hamptons blends effortlessly with the charm of the Midwest in our latest completed project. The owners of this historic Ann Arbor home, built in 1938, sought to create a kitchen with East Coast-flare that would serve as a functional focal point, fit for family and entertaining. Working jointly with Hancock Construction, a five-foot addition was added on to the back of the kitchen to create additional space. The new brick was meticulously matched to make the exterior addition work appear as seamless as possible.

The attention to detail continues on the inside with the kitchen’s lux coastal feel. The custom inset furniture-style Bakes & Kropp Fine Cabinetry line, based out of the Hamptons, was used to define a truly sophisticated East Coast style. The perimeter cabinetry is painted in a soft, luxurious white. The center island is constructed in a complimentary walnut with a pearl stain, which is also featured on the refrigerator door panels. The unique cabinetry handles and knobs are a signature of Bakes & Kropp Fine Cabinetry and are personally designed by owner Bob Bakes. Two 30”-wide Thermador refrigerators were used to accommodate the family of five and are concealed by custom panels. The hardware on the refrigerator panels is also custom designed by Bakes & Kropp. A 36” Thermador range, flanked by a custom designed hood, offers additional style and functionality to the room. The light Carrera-colored quartz counter tops and beveled tile backsplash perfectly complement the soft-colored cabinetry and amplifies the room’s sophisticated, breezy feel.

In addition to the kitchen renovation, our team also updated the home’s adjacent mudroom. The window and entry door were both replaced. A heated slate floor was installed and our frameless Sharer Cabinetry was used to offer convenient storage. A custom walnut bench top was designed using our Sharer Wood Countertops line. A chalk paint feature wall creates a space for the children’s art and weekly schedule. These spaces are now the perfect blend of function and East Coast style!
